One Shot Karel Polotmavé: in collaboration between Otus and Lieviteria.
Karel is a one-shot beer that was born from the collaboration between Otus Brewery and Lieviteria: Czech ground malted malt confers honey, caramel and dried fruit aromas.
Karel is the newest addition by Otuslab, our craft brewery creative laboratory dedicated to the creation of one-shot beers, produced with only one brew, to be tasted now or never.
Karel is a beer in Polotmavé style that was born from the collaboration with the Lieviteria Brewery from Castellana Grotte (BA).
Polotmavé means “half dark” and it is a typical beer style from Czech Republic. It is about low-fermented amber beers with low ABV, “similar” in type to Austrian Vienna Lager or German Dunkel beers. The use of traditional Czech ground malted malt, in addition to caramel and toasted malts, confers to our Polotmavé clean honey, caramel and dried fruit aromas, that are well balanced by Czech Saaz hop. These are beers for great drinking moments.
«We have long desired to collaborate with Lieviteria in order to create a one-shot beer. We share the research for historical and classical styles and the passion for authentic beers. We decided to produce a Polotmavé because it is an uncommon style in the Italian market, even though Czech beers are becoming increasingly popular. We worked together well in advance to refine the recipe before producing it». [Alessandro Reali – Otus Brewery brewmaster]
To produce our one-shot beer, we used Bohemian Pilsner Floor Malted, Vienna, Monaco, Caramunich, Melanoid e Cararoma malts and Agnus and Saaz hops.
«The protagonist of this beer is malt, with slightly toasted and nutty caramel hints. Herbaceous hints from Czech Saaz hop define the aroma and confer light bitterness: the result is a half-bodied balanced beer with balanced drinkability. A good compromise for those looking for a simple beer yet with character». [Angelo Ruggero –Lieviteria brewmaster]
Karel will be tapped in pubs starting from mid-April.
